Day 219: Third Floor Work In Progress

October 28, 2015

It’s an exciting time at the new campus as work for the third (and final) floor of the buildings is in progress. After concrete pouring was completed for all columns on the second floor, the steel tie work and form work for the third floor concrete slabs got underway. This was followed by concrete pouring at the Northeast wing after which the side steel form work was removed from the third floor beams. Steel support structures were then installed in between the concrete beams to support the upcoming plank laying for the third floor.

Day 192: Second floor continued progress

October 1, 2015

Despite the heavy rains, there is significant progress on the second floor of the school building. Pre-cast concrete planks have been positioned on the floor of the vast west wing of the campus. In the north wing, steel tie work and concrete pouring is already underway for the second floor columns. At the same time, another group of workers are preparing the steel tie work for the columns in the rest of the building. In the southeast wing, the concrete topping is now complete for the second floor.

Day 173: Second floor concrete topping

September 12, 2015

After the pre-cast concrete planks were installed on the second floor of the north wing and wire mesh was put into place, concrete trucks were brought to the site to begin pouring concrete for the first topping layer of the second floor. A large crane was utilized to lift heavy drums of concrete to the second floor level.  At the same time, work continued on the ground floor to create wooden form work for the staircase to second floor. At the west wing of the school campus, steel tie work and steel form work is currently in progress to prepare the second floor beams.

Day 159: Second Floor Beams and Planks Arranged

August 29, 2015

The second floor of the east wing and north wing of the new school campus is making steady progress. Scaffolding was installed and steel structures were put into place to support wooden plates for the bottom part of the second floor beams. This was followed by the preparation of steel tie work and wooden form work. Finally, the pre-cast concrete planks were lifted by a crane, arranged on top of the second floor beams and then welded together. Next, the work will move over to the school’s west wing where scaffolding is currently being installed in preparation for the concrete pouring of the beams.

Day 124: Columns Taking Shape

July 25, 2015

Concrete columns have quickly sprung up around the construction site in preparation for building the second floor of the school. Steel form work with props were carefully prepared to ensure the columns are vertical and do not move during the casting of concrete. The columns were then provided temporary protection and wrapped with polythene so that moisture loss is minimized and the concrete becomes fully cured.

Day 114: Precast Concrete Flooring Under Way

July 15, 2015

On day 114, concrete flooring of the ground floor was well under way. Precast concrete floor slabs were erected and put into place above the ground beams. Wire mesh was then assembled on top of the concrete slabs to cast the concrete floor topping. At the same time, columns were slowly being raised to prepare for the second floor of the buildings.

Day 103: Termite Pipe Laying

July 4, 2015

Termite protection is an important concern for the school. A subcontractor has been hired to lay injection pipes underground to prevent subterranean termite infestation. Pipes have been strategically placed under the surface of the ground floor to minimize potential termite damage to the buildings.

Day 92: Concrete Foundation Work Nears Completion

June 24, 2015

On day 92 of construction, the concrete foundation and footing work had neared completion. The form work has been removed and the ground floor is being prepared for the laying of planks and the cement topping. Steel foundations are also being carefully assembled for the elevator shaft.
