Responsibility

In the Peace & Unity classroom, one of our current unit’s key concept is responsibility. We have been focusing on building responsibility, as well as respect, cooperation, and independence (our focus attitudes) through our classroom clean-up time.

Around the classroom, five different focus centers during clean-up.  Teachers took pictures of these centers while they were clean.  We laminated the photos and hung them up.  We also took pictures of all students in the Peace & Unity classroom. Using their photos, 2 students (1 from group A and 1 from group B) are assigned to our focus centers for cleanup.

At the beginning of integrated program, children are encouraged to look for their photo.  And, during clean-up, if their picture is at the center it is their job to ensure it is all cleaned up.

With this system in place, we have seen students work together cooperatively to clean up different centers. But, we have also seen students treat the toys respectfully and responsibly.
